Some "experts" claim that a fat loss plateau is the result of our body adjusting our metabolism as it goes into starvation mode.
There is no such thing as starvation mode!
The body doesn't just decide to lower the metabolic rate at will, it cannot do this. The rate of calorie burning for all of us is set by numerous genetic and biological factors. The only reason the metabolism ever changes is because there are external, or internal changes, or maybe an upset in the body's homeostasis (the delicate chemical balances). What experts refer to as starvation mode, is actually a gradual loss of lean mass, which in turn lowers the metabolic rate. A lowered metabolic rate means less calories needed, thus it starts to match the low calorie diet!
The Severity of The plateau Can be Changed
If a dieter reduces calorie intake severely, in the belief that they'll lose weight quickly, then a plateau will hit much quicker, and will be more severe simply because the rate of protein loss would be much greater. The plateau will also last much longer, and be harder to push out of.
